UNITS

Units Store
units at a mall in Anytown, USA
does anyone remember UNITS from the possibly-late-80s or definitely early-90s? white walls filled with cubbies of perfectly folded and shrink-wrapped cotton clothing. all of the styles were super simple, plain and I'm pretty sure only solid colors. they used to have what I call, a cumberband for women, that you would layer between your SO fashionably turtleneck and your tube skirt.

I remember beeeegging my mom at Mayfair Mall (or was it Grand Avenue?) to treat me to clothes in there. definitely a deep cut memory for me.

here's about all I can find about it online:

twenty-sixteen nablopomo

oh. hi.

kind of dropped off after day 23 of nablopomo, but 23 out of 30 isn't so bad. right? right. i'm not going to blame Thanksgiving because I don't like glorifying busy, and my holidays really aren't that busy (don't hate). I just kind of switched off my internet brain after leaving work the day before and it ended up being a much-needed break.

since we all love lists here's what's happened since then:

ate turkey with the family & celebrated my brother's birthday

watched tons of movies & did a lot of homebody-ing (slippers, sweatshirts, hot tea & lots of blankets)

finished my November Pilates challenge! and have since done nota-whole-lotta exercise :/

Christmasing: lights, tree, shopping!

started doing Sashiko stitching

it snowed once and it was glorious to watch

got some fresh bangs cut and I love 'em

mystery mondays: Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle

Jeremy Brett
Jeremy Brett is by far my all-time favorite actor to portray Sherlock Holmes (one of my all-time favorite characters). between his performance, the fine work of the BBC, the gorgeous sets, and the quality of the rest of the cast, you end up with mystery perfection. in The Blue Carbuncle we get an extra fun dose of Sherlockisms thanks to Brett who keeps his snark a little bit playful, perhaps because it's Christmas time, but his wit and sleuthing are still sharp as ever.

this mystery is a more light-hearted one as it's not based on a murder, but a theft. it's chock-full of charismatic characters from the valet to the royalty. I highly recommend this episode, and actually the entire series. (except for the full length features. for some reason those aren't as well executed as the episodes.)

eye candy

amazonite on albite with smoky quartz
this one is beautiful (notice I did not say amazing even though it is quite). this specimen is from the Icon Pocket, Smoky Hawk claim, Crystal Peak area, Teller Co., Colorado, USA. to give you a little scale, the large amazonite crystal on the left is about the size of a soda can.

amazonite is one of my favorites. I've self-collected Californian amazonite with Jake on a couple trips, nowhere near as colorful or gemmy, but a few hexagonal crystals to be somewhat proud of:)
